R22, also known as Freon R22 and chemical name Chlorodifluoromethane, is a widely used gas in air conditioning system for refrigerant.
Refrigerant R22 is the most common refrigerant gas in many applications after the phase out of CFCs.
According to Montreal Protocol, it is being phased out in developed countries due to the compound's ozone depletion potential (ODP) and high global warming potential (GWP), although global use of R-22 continues to increase because of high demand in developing countries. Nearly all countries have quota or license control for R22 import and export.
