Summary
This article mainly shares the specific types of HCFC series refrigerants to help you understand their characteristics and uses.
HCFC is the abbreviation of Hydrochlorofluorocarbon, and the oxygen layer damage coefficient is only a few percent of R11. Therefore, HCFCs are gradually regarded as the most important transitional substitutes for CFCs. The following are the specific types of HCFC series refrigerants to help you understand their characteristics and uses.
1. R22
R22 (Freon22, Chlorodifuoromethane), molecular formula CHClF2, molecular weight 86.47. R-22 is a colorless, almost odorless gas at room temperature, non-flammable, non-corrosive, and extremely toxic. It can be liquefied into a colorless and transparent liquid under pressure. It is an HCFC refrigerant.
The chemical stability and thermal stability of R-22 are very high, especially in the absence of moisture, it will not react with general metals below 200 °C. Only works slowly with bases in the presence of water. But cracking occurs at high temperatures.
Main uses: R-22 is widely used in household air conditioners, central air conditioners, and other commercial refrigeration equipment; it can also be used as a raw material for polytetrafluoroethylene resin and an intermediate for fire extinguishing agent 1121.
2. R123
Trifluorodichloroethane (2,2-dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane), molecular formula CF3CHCl2, molecular weight 152.93, boiling point 27.85 ℃, CAS registration number: 306-83-2, ozone layer depletion ( ODP) 0.02, Global Warming Potential (GWP) 93, is an HCFC-type refrigerant that replaces R-11 (F11).
Main application: R123 can replace F-11 and F-113 as a cleaning agent, foaming agents, and refrigerants (central air conditioner/centrifugal chiller).
3. R124
Chlorotetrafluoroethane CHClFCF3, HCFC-124 (R124), molecular weight 136.5, boiling point -10.95°C, critical temperature 122.25°C, critical pressure 3.613MPa, ozone destruction potential (ODP) of 0.02, global warming coefficient value (GWP) ) is 0.10.
Main application: HCFC-124 (R124) is mainly used as a refrigerant and fire extinguishing agent, is an important component of the mixed working fluid and can replace CFC-114.
4. R141B
Dichloromonofluoroethane CH3CCl2F, HCFC-141b, molecular weight 116.95, boiling point 32.05°C, critical temperature 204.5°C, critical pressure 4.25MPa, ozone destruction potential (ODP) of 0.11, and global warming coefficient (GWP) of 0.09.
Main use: This product can replace CFC-11 as a foaming agent for rigid polyurethane foam, replace CFC-113 as a cleaning agent, and can also be used as a refrigerant.
5. R142B
Monochlorodifluoroethane CClF2CH3, HCFC-142b, boiling point -9.2°C, critical temperature 136.45°C, critical pressure 4.15MPa, a colorless gas at room temperature, slightly aromatic, soluble in oil, insoluble in water.
Main application: HCFC-142b (R-142b) is mainly used as a refrigeration system in a high-temperature environment, a thermostatic control switch, and an intermediate of aviation propellant, and also used as a chemical raw material.
6. R402A
Composition of R-402A: R-22, R-290, and HFC-125 is a mixed refrigerant for HCFC service. Conforms to the A1 safety level category of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) (this is the highest level and is harmless to the human body); conforms to the standards of the US environmental protection organizations EPA, SNAP, and UL. Refrigerator oil is recommended to use alkylbenzene AB (Alkybenzene) synthetic oil.
Main use: Replace R-502 for commercial refrigeration equipment and some traffic refrigeration facilities, suitable for all environments where R-502 can operate normally.
7. R402B
Composition of R-402B: R-22, R-290, and HFC-125 is an HCFC service type mixed refrigerant.
Main use: Replace R-502 for large commercial refrigeration equipment, such as ice machines. Applicable to all environments where R-502 can function properly.
8. R408A
R408A refrigerant is a mixed working fluid composed of R22, R125, and R143a. It is a colorless gas at room temperature, with a molecular weight of 87.01, a boiling point of -44.4°C, a critical temperature of 83.8°C, a critical pressure of 4.42MPa, and an ozone-destroying potential value (ODP). 0.016.
Main use: R408A refrigerant is mainly used to replace R502.
9. R409A
R409A is a mixture of HCFC-22, HCFC-124, and HCFC-142b, which is a colorless gas at room temperature. The molecular weight is 97.4, the boiling point is -34.5℃, the critical temperature is 106.8℃, the critical pressure is 4.69MPa, and the ozone destruction potential value (ODP) is 0.039.
Main use: R409A is a replacement for R12, mainly used in refrigeration systems.
